Severstal Sparrows Point produces high quality flat-rolled products,
including hot rolled sheet, cold rolled sheet, hot dipped galvanized and
Galvalume® sheet and tin mill products.
Hot Rolled Products
Severstal Sparrows Point 68 in. hot strip mill has an annual throughput of 3
million tons (2.7 million metric tons). The hot strip mill can roll to a
minimum gauge of .061 in. through .495 in. (1.55 mm through 12.50 mm) in widths
from 24 in. to 61 in. (610 mm to 1,549 mm). The hot mill has two walking beam
slab re-heat furnaces, a reversing roughing mill, a coil box and 6 finishing
stands enabling the mill to produce a quality hot rolled product with
consistent gauge and properties.
Cold Rolled Products
The Severstal Sparrows Point's cold mill has a annual capacity of 1.4
million tons (1.3 million metric tons) of steel in thicknesses from .010 in.
through .099 in. (.254 mm through 2.51 mm) with width from 22 in. to 61
in. (762 mm to 1,524 mm). The cold mill complex consists of a modern
(commissioned in 2000), state-of-the-art linked pickler-tandem mill, hydrogen
anneal and a skin pass/tension leveler, enabling the mill to produce consistent
gauge and outstanding flatness and surface quality.
Coated Products
Severstal Sparrows Point’s coating capabilities include two separate
galvanizing lines, each with a width maximum of 49 in. and utilizing the
hot-dipped galvanizing process. A third coating line, with a maximum width of
49 in., has dual pots allowing for the production of both galvanize and
Galvalume® product. This line is equipped with electrolytic cleaning, radiant
heating and in-line skin passing and tension leveling. The line produces the
quality suitable for the exposed and painted applications of the metal building
industry. These lines are capable of producing 0.660 million tons of coated
product (0.600 million metric tons).
Tin Mill Products
The Severstal Sparrows Point's tin mill has a annual capacity of 0.55
million tons (0.500 million metric tons) of the tin plate and black plate steel
in nominal thicknesses from .006 in. through .0141 in. (.167 mm through .0360
mm) with width from 20.0 in. to 38.0 in. (457 mm to 965 mm). The tin
mill produces high-quality single and double reduced products with the full
range of tempers and coating weights available.
