Metalware segment

OJSC Severstal Metalware segment (Severstal-metiz) incorporates a group of businesses producing metal products (metalware), and has production sites in Russia, Ukraine and Great Britain. Severstal-Metiz holds a leading position in the Russian industry (about 30% of the market) and is the biggest exporter of metal products from Russia to Europe and the CIS (53% of total exports). The division produces metal products from cold-rolled, high-carbon and low-carbon steel, as well as welding materials. In 2006, the group turned out a total of 1.1 million tons of metal products. Sales were $1.4 billion. The division’s General Director is Olga Naumova.

Metalware plants

“Orel Plant”

Founded in 1967, the plant has been part of Severstal-Metiz since 2006. The plant’s strategy focuses on products that create high added value. The plant produces steel wire for various different purposes, welding materials and fasteners. The establishment of the Orel Industrial Center was begun in the Orel Plant’s area in late 2005.

“Cherepovets Plant”

Founded in 1965, the plant formed a hardware alliance with the Orel Plant in August 2003. Currently, the plant is part of the Severstal-Metiz management company and specializes in calibrated and converted products (calibrated steel, wire rope, fiber and special-purpose nails). The plant has implemented the Lean Production Program since December 2006.

“Volgograd Plant”

The Volgograd Plant evolved from the Volgograd Steel Wire and Rope Plant, built in 1954. In August 2004, the plant became part of Severstal-Metiz. In accordance with its production strategy, Volgograd Plant is oriented toward producing high-carbon products – steel wire and wire rope. The establishment of the Volgograd Industrial Center was begun in the Volgograd Plant’s area in the second half of 2006.

“Carrington Wire Limited” (UK)

Founded in the UK in 1924, the company became part of Severstal-Metiz in April 2006. The company, with plants in Cardiff and Elland, is oriented toward making products for retail consumers, and also for the automobile, construction and engineering industries. Carrington is among the leaders in the UK hardware market with a share of 30%. The main products from the standpoint of revenue and output in physical terms include spring wire, wire for cold upsetting, stabilized wire and wire strands.

OJSC “Dneprometiz” (Ukraine)

Founded in 1890, the enterprise became part of Severstal-Metiz in February 2006 after signing of a partnership agreement by FG TAS and Severstal-Metiz. It is the biggest producer of hardware products in Ukraine, with a 30% market share. It principally sells wire of different types of treatment, fasteners, nails, pins, electrodes and gauzes. As part of Severstal-Metiz, the business specializes in turning out low-carbon products, many of which are exported.

“UniSpring”

LLC UniSpring (formerly ChSPZ-MKR) was founded in 1997 as a joint venture of OJSC “ChSPZ” and Czech firm MKR lmex. In 2005, the firm opened its branch in Orel. The business produces spring boxes for upholstered furniture and mattresses. A total of 300-odd standard sizes of products has been produced.

“UniFens”

Founded in 2007, UniFens, a specialized net-making business, evolved from metal gauze workshops at the Cherepovets and Orel plants and Policher subsidiary. The product line includes a wide spectrum of welded fabric, wire gauze net, ribbed net, hexagonal net and net structures.

“ТА Rus”

The ТА Rus  joint venture was founded in 2005 on the basis of a metal cord workshop of the Orel Steel Rolling Plant and LLC VolgoMetiz SPTs-5 (currently, Orel and Volgograd plants are part of Severstal-Metiz). The main office is located in Orel and there is a branch in Volgograd. The business produces metal cord, bead wire, metal reinforcing cable and RML wire.

“Steellace”

LLC “Steellace” was founded in 2005 with its foundations in a consumer goods workshop of the Orel Steel Rolling Plant (Orel) and a hardware workshop of LLC Volgometiz (Volgograd). The main office is located in Orel and there is a branch in Volgograd. Its product line includes over 100 items, including articles for commercial and refrigerating equipment, components for furniture production, household goods, etc.
