Alexey Mordashov, CEO of OAO Severstal awarded with Order of Honor

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev awarded Alexey Mordashov, CEO of OAO Severstal, the Order of Honor in the Kremlin in recognition of his great contribution to the development of the RF metallurgical industry.

Order of Honor is a Russian Federation state award that is conferred for the achievement of high productive and economic targets in the industry connected with the priority use of innovative technologies in production and a considerable enhancement of the level of socioeconomic development of RF regions.

Previously Alexey Mordashov was also awarded medals of the Order of Merit for the Motherland of the 1st and 2nd degrees and the RF Government prize in the area of science and technology. The CEO of OAO Severstal was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Economy, the Certificate of Honor of the Governor of the Vologda Region, and a letter of gratitude by the Mayor of Cherepovets. Alexey Mordashov was conferred title “Honorary Citizen of Cherepovets”.

ОАО Severstal is one of Russia’s and the world’s largest vertically integrated steelmaking and mining companies. The Company places great emphasis on the implementation of new technologies. In May 2011, a group of developers of a new generation of pipes including representatives of ОАО Severstal was awarded the RF Government prize in the area of science for 2010. Responsibility” in nominations “Social Investments and Projects” and “For Mastering Energy-Saving Technologies and Energy Efficiency of Operations”.

In 2010, the Company was also awarded the prize of the competition of People Investor corporate projects in nomination “Innovative Approach to Addressing the Local Community Development Problem”. Under the Corporate Charity Survey prepared by newspaper Vedomosti together with PWC and Donors’ Forum the Company became the winner in nomination of the RF Ministry of Economic Development and Trade “The Best Program Promoting the Development of Local Communities and Improvement of the Social Environment in the Region of the Company’s Presence”, and was among the top 10 Russian companies in terms of corporate charity efficiency rating.

Severstal also participates in addressing burning social issues in regions of its presence. The Company and its subsidiary Vorkutaugol finance, on a parity basis with the Federal budget, the relocation of families of miners who died in accidents in coal enterprises in Vorkuta and Inta from the Far North.
