ОАО Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and steel related mining companies, is implementing a unique 3-year personnel training program dubbed Achieve More Together (AMT) covering some1,300 production managers.
The Program is aimed at supporting changes in ОАО Severstal and building a team of associates capable of implementing such changes and achieving outstanding results within the framework of the company’s new strategy, viz. become among the top five world leaders in the industry in terms of profitability.
Corporate Program Achieve More Together has already been recognized by the business community. In 2011, the project was awarded the prestigious “Trainings INDEX” prize in nomination «Efficient Solution in the Area of Personnel Training, Development and Improved Performance».
According to ОАО Severstal General Director Alexei Mordashov, the AMT Program is, on one part, a training course that offers knowledge and, on the other part, a tool for building what we flatly call “horizontal ties”.
“The Program helps get employees involved in cultural transformation processes that are currently under way within the company,” ОАО Severstal General Director pointed out.
Since 2010 the training program has been embracing employees of the company’s enterprises located in Moscow, Cherepovets, St. Petersburg, Orel, Volgograd, Vorkuta, Olenegorsk, Kostomuksha, Yaroslavl and other cities.
The training course includes five modules.
The first module introduces production managers to the updated vision, mission, values and projects of Severstal’s Business System* directed towards achieving strategic goals of the company.
The second module introduces production managers to corporate personnel management tools – recruitment, development, assessment, carrier building, feedback.
The third module teaches how to make managerial decisions based on case studies, improves financial competence and deals with efficiency improvement aspects.
The fourth module teaches managers to build an efficient team. Doing exercises under the guidance of instructors and interacting with the company’s top management, managers learn to understand the needs of their subordinates and motivate them for better results.
The fifth module sums up the results of the entire course and helps managers develop their interpersonal and public speaking skills. One of its priority tasks is to ensure that “graduates” maintain ties and contacts with each other and impart their knowledge to other people at their enterprises.
When developing the AMT Program, its authors paid close heed to the best practices for organizing training programs and used up-to-date methods to develop skills. One of its priority tasks was to have employees involved not only physically, but also emotionally so that from the very outset they are immersed in an atmosphere cardinally changing from the normal work environment.
